What about history?

I don't understand why we can't seem to learn from history. Maybe I'm just hearing one sided news. But didn't thousands of Vietmanese get slaughtered when we pulled out of Vietnam before the job was finished. It seems like I heard something about thousands of Cambodians died the same way. Slaughtered by the tyrants that we left undefeated, because congress wouldn't fund the war effort.
